 In May of 2001, reports of a strange monster surfaced in India.  By most accounts, it was a biped monkey man with a metal helmet, claws, glowing red eyes, and a chest with some device that had lights on it.  Panic swept the country as hysteria gripped the population.  People were trampled and some reports of deaths from frightened folks escaping this monster.  Some claimed it was a botched science experiment, and others claimed it was mass hysteria.  Yet the question remains, what was the monkey man monster in India?

I'm hazarding a guess this is a manifestation of 'ultraterrestrial' energy into a monster concept from maverick UFO investigator John Keel.  It was a concept he most famously connected to the mothman sightings out of point pleasant, and it was Keel thoughts to describe things such as Bigfoot or the Loch Ness Monster.  Essentially the 'monster' winks into our universe from other dimensions stays for a time, and then either returns back from where it came from or dissolve back from the energy that created it.  It does seem to be a connection to the famous 'Mothman' or 'Jersey Devil' in that it is a strange creature which seems to defy any normal description. 

Keel in his book, The Eighth Tower, wonders if these monsters which populate the globe with endless variety point to an otherworldly intelligence behind it.  One of the strange patterns Keel found is that monsters and UFO's were spotted more on Wednesdays than any other day.  One more connection of strangeness and unexplained in regards to monsters and UFO circles.  I'm looking to see if there was a Men in Black or MIB connection with the monkey man monster.

Is there something to the monkey man terror of India?  Only with more research can the answer be released.

When you think of men in black, you automatically think of Will Smith and others fighting alien hordes in a broad comedy.  Most reports of the real men in black are anything but comedic or pleasant, and usually involve weird men in black flashing nebulous government ids and driving brand new model cars completely in black to put pressure on any UFO witnesses.  There are numerous examples of men in black intimidation, but I'll focus on one incident involving the infamous mothman sightings of point pleasant.

In the mid to late sixities in the sleepy town of point pleasant, sightings of an enormous creature with piercing red eyes were coming in at a frantic rate, the press dubbed the creature 'the mothman'. Quickly adding to the hysteria were the arrival of the mysterious men in black.  Mary Hyre, reporter for the nearby The Athens Messenger had done several stories about the mysterious mothman and its connection with old abandoned TNT munitions plant outside of point pleasant. 

Soon she reported she was followed by dark automobiles, and was paid a visit by mysterious men in black who pressured her to drop her work with the mothman.  Mary refused to be intimitaded by her visitors and they left.  Soon after, Mary had passed away of a heart ailment, even though she had no history of heart problems.

Was Mary silenced by the men in black?  Mary's close friend, paranormal writer John Keel, hinted that Mary had hit upon some fantastic connection with the mothman, and was silenced by the sinister men in black.  Adding fuel to the mystery was complete disappearance of the mothman creature from point pleasant.  Just what was the supposed creature is now guesswork of history, and Mary's 'explosive' story was snuffed out just like the woman who perhaps got too close to the truth.

Welcome to UFO blur zone. This blog will touch on the serious and sometimes not so serious aspects of the UFO experience.
Filmmaker James Smith and DBC films in association with Silver Chain films have recently completed work on about the Mothman called POINT PLEASANT. Here is writer/director James Smith talking about his latest film.


Give us a quick overview of what you do.
James Smith, owner of D.B.C Entertainment, wrote his first screenplay at the age of sixteen. Since then he has written countless short stories, scripts and three novels.
Smith had participated in several Performing Arts productions throughout grammar and high school, including his first leading role in “Secrets in the Toy Room.”

James Smith has written, directed or starred in the following films: “Shoot the Moon”, “Room 110”, “The Runaway”, “Tea Party”, “The Unlucky Few”, “Chronicles of Cross”, “Saucer Sexodus”, "Hate the Living, Love the Dead", "Point Pleasant", and “Take Back.”

Currently, he is working on another novel based off his second feature film, and his television series “Insecurity.”


Which brings us to your film, what brought this film about?

Point Pleasant is a 1st person film that is based off the Mothman sighting of Point Pleasant West Virginia. It takes you through the investigation by a paranormal research group, along with seeing it through the eyes of several others along the way, which mixes it up and makes it stand out from other 1st person features such as The Blair Witch Project, Paranormal Activity, Cloverfield and others.

Any stories about producing the film that you like to share?
Point Pleasant was a blast to work on. Filming in 1st person is a whole other filming "entity". The shots are so much more brutal as you have several actors who must go through an entire scene together, sometimes as long as 6 minutes, and if one person messes up the have to redo the entire scene once again from the start. But, like always, the DBC Family has a blast on set regardless of what we are doing.
